Reading or Writing - what's it gonna be?

I am or was a natural reader.  Then I had to study for the CPA exam and lost any enjoyment of reading.  It was all read the last sentence work backwards.  Don't even to pretend to digest the material, you are basically Godzilla - get to the answer.
ouSo with the Covid, lack of Starbucks (seriously I stopped Starbucks because it shut down - just like that)  That was a silly habit.  Like smoking but instead sucking on sugar (hot chocolates - this I started when I went on the blood sugar diet.  The book said don't drink tea, don't drink coffee, and seriously, you have to have a luxury in your diet.  So that was a dumb habit to learn.  Ok where was I?  So, with the limited things to distract me I decided to pick up reading again.

I have been reading the tax code for many years now, I have been googling the tax code for many years now, I have been reading really, really dense material trying to decipher if the logic is right and who is this person writing it are they making sense.  So basically, I have become Godzilla.  haha.

So, my very dear friend who is extremely literary motivated to read again.  He said take it slow, read the classics.  So, I decided on "Sherlock Holmes".  I have been watching that on tv and Lucy Liu playing Watson like I thought yah that's me.  She did play Charlie's Angels and I didn't see that but I am pretty sure that's not me.

I read the first bit and enjoyed it and then the second part which still connects to the first part but is so off beat - it's in he Sierra's - how does Sherlock get to the Sierra's and I used to walk around those parts so it brought back memories and Seriously, after much reading the Sierras and London do connect but at that point I didn't care.  I was like this is too much Arthur.  You need to be ready for tv shows.  So that book got shelved.  I really seriously tried to read it a ridiculous amount of times but I just couldn't do it.  The writing is good and brings you back good sentence structure and also words that have been around forever, just accurate writing, I did enjoy that.

Then out with the ladies The Goldfinch was mentioned so I bought that.  I was reading contemporary.  I loved it.  But I am on page 60 and it's been more than a few weeks and I am like why is this taking so long, the New York museum exploded, the kid is finding his way out.   I was like this is too confusing he should be out of there by now, I am still waiting for him to find out his mom has died.  My mom has lung cancer and she is dying too, so maybe that's it.  I need to read recipe books that's it.   With really nice pictures.

I am actually reading "Marianne Power"  "help me".  It's British Chick Lit which I like.  It's fast paced and human.  I am on page 67 and it's only been a few days.  This is easy reading.   She is a mess, she will try and clean up her mess and probably live happily ever after.  She is likeable but really probably a slob and a drunk if she weren't a fictional person.

Did you read the Girl on the Train.  She sounded like a slob.  Then some really thin actress played the role, See you have to have a charming woman.  haha.

Well that's it for now thanks for listening.
